VigRX was introduced in 2001 to challenge Enzyte. At that time, VigRX could probably get away with claiming to be “the gold standard” even if it features a male enhancement formula that is inferior to what the newer male enhancers are using today.

The VigRX formula contains Asian Red Ginseng (Panax Ginseng), Catuaba, Epimedium (also known as Horny Goat Weed), Ginkgo Biloba, Hawthorn Berry, Muira Puama, and Saw Palmetto.

Epimedium acts as a mild PDE5 (the enzyme which prevents you from having an erection) inhibitor. Ginkgo helps support blood vessel health and increase blood flow to your penis. Panax Ginseng is used to fight non-medically caused erectile dysfunction. Saw Palmetto helps support prostate health. Muira Puama is used to increase libido and virility. Catuaba helps boost libido and dilate blood vessels. Hawthorn Berry contains antioxidants that support cardiovascular health.

Leading Edge Herbals, a company that produces mostly sexual enhancement supplements, claims that the “precise blending” of VigRX ingredients makes it an effective male enhancer that improves erections, sex drive, stamina, orgasms, and even prevents premature ejaculation despite the product lacking three powerful male enhancement ingredients: L-arginine, Tribulus Terrestris, and Yohimbe.

VigRX may have been one of the more popular male enhancement supplements but it never was the gold standard, even during its heyday.
